A vehicle window was smashed on Northern Avenue overnight.

North Street Break-in (previous release):

A break and enter was reported in the 900 block of North St. when a family member attended to check the residence.  The house is described as ransacked.  Entry was gained through a bedroom window between Friday afternoon and 3:00 p.m. today.  A gun locker has been entered and it is believed four long guns and one .22 calibre handgun have been stolen pending confirmation and return of the homeowners.

Update:

The homeowner has confirmed that 7 firearms were taken from the home, including 4 long guns and one 22 calibre handgun.

There was a report of an attempt break and enter into a garage in the 100 block of Elliott Road earlier in the day on the 16th.

A home in the 400 block of Farwell Terrace was broken into during the daytime hours Sunday.  Items taken include money and foreign coins.

Sunday night between 9:30 pm and 1230 am a residence in the 100 block of Gore Street was entered.  A 55 inch Samsung television was taken. 

Motor Vehicle Collision

City Police are continuing their investigation into a motor vehicle collision that occurred on the 16th of December at approximately 4:15 pm.  A black Nissan operated by 21 year old Garrick Maahs of Massey, Ontario was travelling westbound on Albert Street West.  A beige Oldsmobile operated by 42 year old Margaret Erdman of Sault Ste. Marie was travelling northbound on Carmen’s Way. The two vehicles collided.  The driver of the Oldsmobile, a 25 year old female passenger and a four year old female passenger received minor injuries.  All three were taken by ambulance to the Sault Area Hospital. 

Robbery:

On the 16th of December at 10 pm a lone male armed with a knife confronted a clerk at the Queen Street West Variety Store as he was closing the store.  The suspect tried to force his way into the store and the clerk was cut with a knife. The clerk was able to secure the store and called police.  The clerk received non- life threatening injuries.  The suspect fled on foot.  The suspect was wearing a dark hoodie and his face was covered with a balaclava. The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Canine Unit was called out to assist with the search.
