Male Charged With Assault
A 47-year old male will also appear in bail court this morning after being charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that on December 12th the accused did assault his common-law wife by hitting her in the face, and pushing her to the ground. The incidents took place in the downtown area. The victim did not require medical treatment.
Female Charged
31-year old Heather Rivers of 301-536A Goulais Avenue will appear in bail court this morning after being arrested last evening for shoplifting. It is alleged that she stole meat valued at just over $100 from the A&P store on Second Line West. The accused fled the store but was apprehended by security on Second Line West. When officers attended to they learned that she was wanted for stealing a cell phone from the Wal-Mart Store that an officer from an earlier shift was investigating. The accused has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and 2 counts of possession of property obtained by crime. Officers recovered all of the meat and the cell phone.
Break and Enter
On the 11th of December shortly before 6 am City Police stopped a male in the downtown area who was running. A resident of a downtown address came out and advised officers that the male had just broken into their apartment. As a result of this 20-year old Jamie Hodgson of 16 Batchewana Street of Sault Ste Marie was charged with one count of break and enter with intent. When officers searched the accused they found a vial with cannabis resin in it with a street value of $15-$20 dollars. He was also charged with possession of a controlled drug or substance and will appear in court on January 17th.
City Police received 2 reports of break and enters over the weekend. On the 11th of December a home in the 300 block of Hudson Street was entered. It is unknown at this time what was taken. On the 11th of December thieves also broke into the Royal Canadian Legion on Great Northern Road but it does not appear that they made off with anything. R.I.D.E. Program
City Police arrested 4 persons for impaired driving related offences over the weekend. The R.I.D.E. Unit made 2 of those arrests.
Just before midnight on the 10th of December a car tried to avoid the R.I.D.E. Unit by turning down a side street in the area of lower Pim Street. Officers stopped the car and found the driver to be exhibiting signs of impairment. 42-year old Maarit Annala-Steinwedel of 130 Laronde Ave had been charged with one count of consume over the legal limit. She will appear in court on January 17th. On December 12th shortly after 2 am 26-year old Richard White of 422 First Avenue was stopped by the R.I.D.E. Unit and found to be impaired. He has been charged with one count of consume over the legal limit and will appear in court on January 17th.
The other 2 impaired drivers came to the attention of officers due to their driving habits. On the 11th of December 20-year old Dustin Busque of 210 Elmwood Avenue drove a car into the ditch. The accused showed obvious signs of impairment and was arrested. He has been charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over the legal limit. He will appear in court on January 17th. Shortly before 11 pm on the same date 23-year old Roxanne Miller of 329 Alexandra Street got a vehicle she was operating stuck in a field on Town Line. When police arrived she displayed obvious signs of impairment. She has been charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over the legal limit She will appear in court on January 17th as well.
