Break in A beak and enter was reported at approximately 5 a.m. this morning to the Soo Curling Club on Anita Blvd, A front door was smashed and the cash register taken. It was recovered a short distance away. An unknown amount of coin was taken.

Violent assault

A 41 year old male is in custody after an extensive search.  Police responded to a violent domestic assault on Sunday the 7th day of April 2013.  A 911 call was made to the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service by neighbour requesting police assistance to attend a north end address regarding an injured female who had shown up asking for help. The investigation determined that the female was assaulted inside her residence nearby.

When the victim arrived home earlier in the evening, the accused - her boyfriend, was inside her home.  He accused her of infidelity and began to punch her in the face while she was in the bedroom and then he sexually assaulted her. The victim tried to get away from him by leaving the apartment but he refused to let her leave. When she tried to leave he choked her to prevent her from leaving.  He caught her and pulled her back inside her apartment and assaulted her again.  He then threatened to kill her if she called police.  Once he left she ran from her home to seek help.   The victim received several injuries including a facial fracture.

The accused was also on probation conditions that stipulate he not attend the place of residence of the victim, not to communicate directly or indirectly and not to molest harass or physically interfere with her resulting from previous domestic incidents.  He has been charged with assault causing bodily harm, sexual assault, forcible confinement, overcoming resistance by choking, threatening, and four counts of breach of probation.  The accused will appear in bail court tomorrow.

Male arrested for domestic assault

A 32 year old male has been arrested for assault and threatening following a domestic dispute that occurred on April 6th of this year.  It is alleged that during an argument, the accused assaulted his girlfriend by choking her and throwing her against a wall.  The accused then kicked the victim in the stomach, groin and knees.  During the assault, the accused was yelling at the victim saying he was going to kill her.  The victim was able to leave the residence and contact police.  The accused was soon after arrested and held for bail court on April 8th 2013.

Male arrested for failing to provide a breath sample

On the 6th of April, at approximately 4:30 a.m. officers with the Patrol Services section of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 36 year old Christopher Daynard of 389 Pim Street for one count of refusing to provide a breath sample.  Mr. Daynard was operating a motor vehicle on Wellington Street West near Brown Street when he was pulled over by police.  Officers found that Mr. Daynard had consumed alcohol and demanded that he provide a breath sample.  The accused was given several opportunities to comply with the demand and he did not.  As a result, he was arrested, and will appear in court on May 13th of this year.

Arrests

33 year old Michael Arbuckle of Elliot Lake was arrested on an outstanding warrant for being unlawfully at large and breach of probation. It is alleged that on the 8th of March he failed to attend at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre as per his intermittent sentence order. He is scheduled to appear in bail court on April 8.
