The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service announced Friday night that 50-year-old Jerry Leveille is now wanted for second-degree murder in addition to multiple weapons charges as police continue to investigate the death of a woman in the 100 block of James Street.
In a release, police say "it’s alleged the accused was in a residence with the victim, an argument ensued and he shot the victim. The victim died as a result of the gunshot wound."
Police say the victim and accused were known to each other and it was not a random act of violence.
In addition to the second-degree murder charge, Leveille is also wanted on a number of weapons charges, including:
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Unauthorized possession of a weapon
- Knowingly possessing an unauthorized weapon
- Possession of a loaded firearm
- Possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order
- Careless use of a firearm
- Pointing a firearm
Police are asking anyone with information on Leveille's whereabouts to call 911 and not approach him. He is considered to be armed and dangerous.
