Sault Police have located a wanted man who allegedly threatened a person over the summer while holding a knife and a baseball bat.

On July 30, someone phoned 911 to report a person with a weapon in the 200 block of Wellington Street East.

Police say the suspect had already left the scene by the time officers arrived.

“An investigation revealed the accused had verbally threatened a victim while holding a knife and a baseball bat and had damaged the victim’s vehicle,” says a news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. “A warrant was obtained for their arrest.”

More than three months later, on Oct. 16, police say officers spotted the suspect “operating a motor vehicle despite being a prohibited and suspended driver.”

The vehicle was pulled over in the 200 block of Bay Street and the driver was arrested. Police say the driver was found with a licence that was reported stolen on Sept. 20.

Ryan Young, 31, is charged with:

  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Mischief Under $5,000
  • Uttering Threats
  • Driving While Under Suspension x3 (under the Highway Traffic Act)
  • Operation While Prohibited x6
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Under $5,000
  • Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle (under the Highway Traffic Act)

The suspect was released on an undertaking and is scheduled back in court on Dec. 16, 2024.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Young is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
