Man turns himself in after cops say he threatened someone with flashlight

One person was arrested yesterday after police allege they threatened someone with a flashlight on the evening of Aug. 26. 

The accused turned themselves in and stands charged with assault with a weapon as a result.

Full text of a news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service about this incident follows:

On Sept. 26, 2024, officers with Patrol Services charged 63-year-old Hubert Dekever with assault with a weapon.

Around 11 p.m. on Aug. 26, 2024, 911 Communicators received a report of someone being aggressive toward security officers in the 0-100 block of Lake Street. An investigation revealed the accused had marched toward a victim in an aggressive manner while swinging a flashlight in a threatening manner. Once the victim was in their vehicle, the accused struck their vehicle with the flashlight.

Officers attended the accused’s residence, and the accused yelled at them to get off their property. Officers obtained a warrant for their arrest.

On Sept. 26, 2024, the accused attended the Police Services Building to turn themselves in. They were arrested and charged with assault with a weapon. The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 25, 2024.
