Man faces weapons, drug charges after 'suspicious activity' check: Sault Police

Police say the accused was on two probation orders not to possess break-in tools

Sault Police have arrested and charged a 23-year-old with weapons and drug-related offences.

In a press release issued today, police say three men were located where a break and enter had been reported early yesterday morning.

Police report finding suspected crystal meth, bear mace, brass knuckles, a digital scale, and .22 calibre ammunition upon a subsequent search of the accused.

The full text of the release from Sault Police reads as follows:

On Sept. 8, 2021 officers with Patrol Services charged 23-year-old Jacques Roy with breach of probation.

Around 2:30 a.m. while on patrol in the downtown area, officers observed three men around a vehicle in the parking lot of a business. The night before, a break and enter was reported at the business in the 0-100 block of Bay Street.

Officers initiated a person check due to suspicious activity. The investigation revealed the licence plates on the vehicle are not registered to the vehicle. The three men began removing property from the vehicle, and at this time officers observed bolt cutters sticking out of a backpack the accused pulled from the vehicle.

Officers identified the accused and determined he was currently on two probation orders not to possess break-in tools. He was arrested.

A subsequent search of the accused found the accused to be in possession of bear mace, a small amount of a substance believed to be crystal methamphetamine, a digital scale, brass knuckles and .22 calibre ammunition.

He is charged with;

  • Breach of probation - not to possess break-in tools x2
  • Breach of probation - failing to keep the peace and be of good behaviour x2
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose x2
  • Possession of a firearm or weapon contrary to a prohibition order x3
  • Possession of break-in tools
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon

He was held for bail court and later released with conditions. He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 18, 2021.
