Man faces weapons charges after handing brass knuckles to police

A 41-year-old man is facing weapons charges after police responded to a disturbance downtown Monday morning.

Responding officers located a person, later identified as the accused, in the 600 block of Queen Street East.

When officers approached the man, he pulled brass knuckles out of his pocket and gave them to the officers, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said in a news release.

As a result, Justin St. Amour was arrested and charged with: 

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • Possession of a firearm or weapon, contrary to a prohibition order
  • Fail to comply with probation order – keep the peace and be of good behaviour

St. Amour was later released on an undertaking and will appear in court on May 29.
