Man faces robbery, theft charges

On Aug. 3, 2017, officers with the Patrol Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 36-year-old Elliot Southwind of Garden River in relation to a robbery investigation.

On Aug. 3, 2017 the accused attended a store in the 100-block of Churchill Boulevard where he is alleged to have selected just over $230 worth of merchandise and left the store without paying. 

The accused was then approached by a security officer and told that he was under arrest. (It is alleged) the accused then assaulted the security officer by punching her, pulling her hair and biting her. Other security officers assisted and the accused was held for police.

Officers quickly arrived and the accused was taken into custody. He has been charged with;

  • One count of robbery,
  • One count of theft under $5,000,
  • One count of possession of stolen property,
  • One count of resisting arrest; and,
  • Three counts of breach of recognizance

He will appear in bail court today.
