Man faces assault charge, police say

The accused assaulted the victim, causing the victim to hit their head on the ground, police said

Sault Ste. Marie Police Patrol Services have charged a man with assault in connection with an incident that occurred last year.

According to a news release, around 11:30 p.m. on Nov. 11, 2022, officers responded to report of an assault.

During the investigation, officers learned the accused was with the victim when an argument ensued. The accused assaulted the victim, causing the victim to hit their head on the ground, the release added. The accused and the victim are known to each other.

A warrant was requested and issued for the arrest of the accused. On Feb. 25 officers located the accused outside a residence in the 0-100 block of Grace Street. The accused was arrested on the strength of the warrant.

Paul Kwissiwa, 34,  was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on May 1 to face the assault charge.
