Man charged with impaired driving after vehicle found in ditch on Shafer Avenue

He's also accused of repeatedly kicking a door of a nearby residence, causing significant damage

Police have charged 30-year-old Jesse Coulis after a vehicle was discovered partially in a ditch on Shafer Avenue early Saturday morning.

A news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service states that the 30-year-old accused was found near the vehicle sitting on the front steps of a residence.

“Further investigation determined the accused is a prohibited driver and he had approached a residence and kicked a door repeatedly, causing significant damage,” the release says.

On Oct. 2, 2021, officers with Patrol Services charged 30-year-old Jesse Coulis with impaired driving – alcohol and drugs.

Around 2 a.m., officers responded to a call of a possible impaired driver in the 400 block of Shafer Avenue. Upon arrival officers observed a white SUV with it’s rear tires in a ditch and the accused sitting on the front steps of a residence in the area. Upon speaking with the accused officers developed grounds to believe his ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol.

He was arrested and refused to comply with the officers request to complete a breathe sample. Further investigation determined the accused is a prohibited driver and he had approached a residence and kicked a door repeatedly, causing significant damage.

He is charged with impaired driving – alcohol and drugs, refusing to comply with a demand, driving while prohibited, two counts of driving while licence suspended, and mischief under $5,000.

He was releasing on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 15, 2021.
