A man is facing dangerous driving and impaired driving after a pedestrian was struck in downtown Sault Ste. Marie early Saturday.

At around 2 a.m. on August 26, someone called 911 to report a disturbance in the 600 block of Queen Street East.

Arriving officers saw multiple people chasing after a vehicle that was speeding out of a parking lot.

The group told police the driver had just hit a pedestrian and they were able to identify the suspect.

The victim had minor injuries.

Police arrested the suspect in the 200 block of Rossmore Road for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Officers suspected the accused was impaired by alcohol and say multiple breath samples registered above the legal limit.

James Notte, 25, has been charged with:

  • Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80+)
  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and/or Drug

He’s been released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on September 18.
