On Wednesday, Sault Ste. Marie Police officers charged a 35-year-old man with 58 offences in connection with three incidents that happened over the last few months.
On Dec. 21, 2024, a 911 caller reported someone having a concealed firearm outside a business in the 300 block of John Street.
“An investigation revealed the suspect’s identity as the accused. A warrant was obtained for their arrest,” police said in a news release.
On Dec. 30, 2024, a 911 caller reported someone spraying a victim with bear mace both outside and inside of a business in the 300 block of John Street.
“The victim and accused were not known to one another; however, an investigation revealed the suspect’s identity as the accused. Another warrant was obtained for their arrest,” police said.
On Feb. 28, detectives began investigating reports of the accused uttering threats and being in possession of a firearm at a unit within a multi-unit residence building in the 100 block of Wellington Street West.
“On March 1, detectives arrested the accused on the strength of outstanding warrants and executed a search warrant at the accused’s unit,” police said.
The search located a BB pistol, three BB/pellet pistols, a shotgun, and various ammunition.
On March 12, officers attended the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre and arrested Brodie Barnes on charges resulting from the search warrant.

- Administer Noxious Thing
- Assault with a Weapon
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Mischief – Interfere with Lawful Use, Enjoyment, or Operation of Property
March 1, 2025, search warrant:
- Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device, or Ammunition x4
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x36
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm x2
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing. None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
