Man charged in relation to armed robbery investigations

Accused faces numerous theft, weapons charges

Sault Police have arrested Mark Rose on relation to three incidents of theft that occurred early Saturday morning.  

A news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service alleges that the 41-year-old attended businesses on Trunk Road and McNabb Street, pointed a firearm at staff, and made off with undisclosed amounts of cash and merchandise.

It is further alleged that the accused fled a Second Line West gas station without paying for fuel.

Police apprehended the accused on Saturday at a Cooper Street address.

Rose faces a number of theft and weapons charges as a result, including armed robbery, carrying a concealed weapon, and pointing a firearm.

On Feb. 6, 2021, officers with Patrol Services and the Emergency Services Unit arrested 41-year-old Mark Rose for robbery.

It’s alleged at 12:35 a.m., the accused attended a business in the 1200 block of Trunk Road, pointed a firearm at an employee and demanded money and property. The clerk cooperated with the demands and the accused left the area with an undisclosed amount of money and property.

It’s further alleged at 12:45 a.m., the accused attended a business in the 300 block of McNabb Street, pointed a firearm at an employee and demanded money and property. The clerk cooperated with the demands and the accused left the area with an undisclosed amount of money and property.

It’s further alleged at 1:08 a.m., the accused attended a business in the 600 block of Second Line West, put fuel in his vehicle and left without attempting to pay.

Officers responded and located the accused a short time later in the 500 block of Cooper Street and he was arrested.

Later on Feb. 6, 2021, officers with Investigation Services executed a search warrant at a residence in the 500 block of Cooper Street. While inside officers located a loaded 20 gauge shotgun.

He is charged with the following:
    •    Robbery using a firearm x2
    •    Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose x2
    •    Carrying a concealed weapon x2
    •    Pointing a firearm x2
    •    Using a firearm while committing an offence
    •    Knowingly possessing an unauthorized firearm
    •    Unauthorized possession of a firearm x3
    •    Careless use of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition x2
    •    Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition x2
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime x2
    •    Possession of a firearm knowing the serial number has been tampered with
    •    Theft under $5,000

He was held for bail court.
