A 38-year-old was arrested on Thanksgiving Monday in connection with a break-and-enter in Jamestown.

At around 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 14, a person phoned 911 to report a break-in in the 600 block of Queen Street West.

“Although the accused had left prior to officers’ arrival, an investigation revealed they had broken into the residence by damaging property to gain entry,” says a news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

The suspect was located and arrested in the 100 block of Wellington Street West, police say.

Scott Backman is charged with one count of break and enter.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled back in court on Dec. 9, 2024.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Backman is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
