Police have arrested a 29-year-old Sault man after he allegedly stole items and assaulted a security guard.

Officers say the accused attended a business in the 200 block of Bay Street on Sunday and allegedly selected approximately $275 worth of items and left without attempting to pay.

Police say security staff attempted to stop the accused from leaving when he threatened them. As security staff attempted to apprehend the accused, police say he then assaulted a security guard who sustained minor injuries.

Security staff were able to gain control of the accused, and police arrested him upon arrival.

As a result, Thomas Agawa has been charged with robbery, assault with a weapon and theft under $5,000.

He was held for bail court.
