Man accused of trying to yoink police officer's Taser

The accused faces numerous firearms-related charges

Officers were investigating a firearms call at 4 a.m. when the home's owner tried to disarm one of the officers of their conductive energy weapon, says Sault Police.

Police say a witness reported seeing guns in the accused's Seventh Avenue home. Investigating officers found 40 BB guns and two firearms.

The attempted disarming was not successful, says a police news release.

Mark Vekich, 59, was charged with:

  • Disarming a peace officer
  • Two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Two counts of possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Two counts of careless storage of a firearm
  • Two counts of careless storage of ammunition
  • Four counts of possession contrary to an order

Police say the accused was released on an undertaking has his first court appearance on Aug. 21.
