On Mar. 22, 2017 officers with the Patrol Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 23-year-old Sydney Benwell of Anderson Road in relation to 3 thefts.

It is alleged that on Oct. 16, 2016 the accused entered a store on Second Line West. The accused [is alleged to have] selected $116 worth of merchandise and left the store without paying. 

The accused attended the same store on Oct. 17 and this time [is alleged to have] selected $58 worth of merchandise and left the store without paying.

Further, on Mar. 10, 2017 the accused attended the same store and [is alleged to have] selected $177 worth of merchandise. As the accused was leaving the store he was confronted by a staff member. 

The accused [is alleged to have] indicated that he had a knife and told the staff member not to come near him. No weapon was shown and the accused [is alleged to have] left with the merchandise.

On Mar. 22, the accused was arrested by police and charged with 2 counts of theft under $5,000 and one count of robbery. He will appear in court on May 1, 2017.
