A 24-year-old man is accused of sexually assaulting multiple people on or near Whitefish Island.
At around 1 p.m. on July 7, Sault police were dispatched to a report of a sexual assault on Canal Drive.
“Shortly after arriving, officers were approached by another victim who reported they had just been sexually assaulted while walking on Whitefish Island,” says a news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. “While investigating, a third victim approached officers to report that they were also a victim of the same accused. That incident had occurred on a different date and location.”
Based on the descriptions provided, police say they located and arrested a suspect.
Austin Larocque is charged with:
- Sexual Assault with a Weapon
- Sexual Assault
- Sexual Interference
- Invitation to Sexual Touching
- Forcible Confinement
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order x4
He is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and Larocque is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
