An afternoon call to 911 on Monday has led to multiple charges for a 64-year-old locally.

Around 2 p.m., a report was received of someone on a bicycle threatening a child with a knife in the 400 block of Pim Street.

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded to the scene and found a person matching the description of the accused in the 100 block of Poplar Avenue.

The accused was arrested without incident and police say the individual was found to be in possession of a pocketknife.

Police found the victim as well and say that an investigation revealed that the accused "had brandished the pocketknife while uttering threats at them."

There were no physical injuries as a result of the incident.

Ian McKinley has been charged with:

  • assault with weapon
  • uttering threats

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court in August to face the charges.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and McKinley is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
