UPDATE: Police canvassing neighbourhood after 'suspicious death' on John Street

Sault police have taped off a multi-unit residence near John and Cathcart streets; police say investigation is not linked to Thursday's brutal stabbing on the boardwalk

Sault Police officers are canvassing the area around John and Cathcart streets today, one day after confirming a suspicious death investigation was underway.

Sault Police spokesperson Lincoln Louttit told SooToday on Friday the investigation is not currently linked to a brutal stabbing that occurred Thursday afternoon on the city's boardwalk. An arrest was made in that incident.

"[There's] no reason to believe they are connected," Louttit said of the two investigations.

So far, the department has not disclosed the nature of the investigation or the name of the deceased.

Officers with the department's Crime Suppression Unit were seen canvassing the John and Cathcart area on Friday afternoon, while uniformed officers remained on scene of a multi-unit residence surrounded by yellow police tape.

SooToday will provide more details as they become available.
