The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is investigating how 30-year-old James Bolan was 'erroneously released' from custody at the Sault Ste. Marie Courthouse Monday morning.
“We’re still investigating the incident. We want to make the public aware Mr. Bolan is unlawfully at large in the community and there was an error of some kind that led to him being unlawfully at large,” said Lincoln Louttit, Sault Police spokesperson, speaking to SooToday.
“We would ask people that if you see him, don’t approach him.”
“Call us immediately, call 911, and we want to refer people to our Crime Stoppers partners as well if they feel they want to make a tip anonymously, that’s a great resource for them to do so. Or if someone spots Mr. Bolan, please call 911 immediately and talk to our staff here, and we’ll take the information,” Louttit said.

On Jan. 27, 2020 around 11:30 a.m., 30-year-old James Bolan was at the Sault Ste. Marie Courthouse when he was erroneously released from custody and is currently unlawfully at large.
Officers in Investigation Services are actively investigating the incident.
Mr. Bolan is facing charges of attempted murder, assault with a weapon, weapons dangerous and unlawfully in a dwelling in relation to a May 2019 incident.
Police urge James Bolan to turn himself in to police or through council.
