A 26-year-old is facing multiple charges after a person drove through a snowbank, crashed into a parked car on Broadview Street — and kept on driving.

Sault Police were dispatched to the scene yesterday at around 5:30 p.m. after someone phoned 911 to report an erratic driver. Officers spotted the suspect in the area of Second Line West and Goulais Avenue and pulled him over.

“Upon speaking with the driver, officers developed grounds to believe their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol,” says a news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. “The accused provided multiple breath samples into an Approved Screening Device, all of which were above the legal limit. They were arrested.”

Marcus Diaz-Gallant is charged with:

  • Dangerous Operation
  • Operation While Impaired – Drug and/or Alcohol
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80+)
  • Driving While Under Suspension (Under the Highway Traffic Act)
  • Fail to Remain (Under the Highway Traffic Act)

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled back in court on Feb. 12, 2024.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Diaz-Gallant is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
