A 52-year-old woman is facing multiple charges — including impaired driving and leaving the scene of an accident — after a two-vehicle collision Thursday morning.

The crash occurred around 9 a.m. at the intersection of Alberta Avenue and Bruce Street.

Sault Police say when officers arrived at the scene, one of the drivers had left the area — but then walked back to speak to police.

While talking to the driver, police say officers developed grounds to believe she’d been drinking. She was placed under arrest and provided multiple breath samples, which all registered above the legal limit.

Heather Dukes is charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Drug and/or Alcohol
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80+)
  • Dangerous Operation
  • Fail to Remain (under the Highway Traffic Act)

She was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled back in court on July 29.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Dukes is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
