One person is facing multiple charges, including two counts of assault of a peace officer, after an incident early Thursday afternoon.

At around 12:20 p.m., someone called 911 to report the assault of two security officers in the 700 block of Great Northern Road.

When Sault Ste. Marie Police arrived, they were told the accused had verbally threatened and physically assaulted the two security officers. Both were left with minor injuries.

Police say the accused also lit and smoked a cigarette inside a building where signs indicate smoking is not allowed.

“While officers were investigating, the accused became aggressive and lunged at them with a fist raised,” said Sault Ste. Marie Police in a news release.

“Officers gained physical control of the accused, and they were arrested.”

Kelson Reid, 29, has been charged with:

  • Assault of a peace officer x2
  • Assault x2
  • Uttering threats
  • Mischief under $5,000

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
