Second Male Charged with Sexual Assault

News release from the 28th of September 2006

While in custody on unrelated charges the accused 22-year-old Kevoughn Seon Alleyne was charged in relation to an incident which took place on June 1st 2006. It’s alleged that on this date the accused touched a female known to him in a sexual manner after confining her to a bedroom. The victim managed to get away and contacted the Police. The accused has been charged with 1 count of Forcible Confinement and 1 count of Sexual Assault. He is to appear in Bail court today.

A second male has been charged in relation to a sexual assault, which took place on June 1st, 2006. City Police arrested 23-year-old Dionte Tremar Dunning of 751 Pine Street at the City Police Station at approximately 9am.
It’s believed that Dionte Dunning is the co-accused in the above sexual assault. The victim was also known to the accused. Dionte Dunning has been charged with 1 count of Sexual Assault and 1 count of Forcible Confinement. He is to appear in court on the 30th of October.

Female Charged with Assault

A 33-year-old female has been charged with assaulting her common-law husband. It’s alleged that on the 28th of September just before 10am the accused assaulted the male by kicking him in the face. The male did not require medical attention for his injuries. The female was arrested at the Police Station and charged with 1 count of Assault. The accused is to appear in court on the 1st of November.

Breach & Unlawfully in a Dwelling House

City Police responded to a call in the west end of the city yesterday and arrested a 48year-old male. It’s believed that the accused was on a release document stating that he was not to attend his ex-wife’s residence. The accused attended the residence and entered inside without permission then fled before police arrived The accused was located at a neighbors residence and charged with 1 count of Breach of Recognizance and 1 count of Unlawfully in a Dwelling House. The accused will be appearing in bail court this morning.

5 Acts of Vandalism

City Police investigated 5 separate calls of vandalism yesterday. In four of the calls vehicles were damaged.

1. 200 block of Wilson Street.
2. 100 block of Parker Avenue.
3. 100 block of Pentagon Avenue.
4. 100 block of Great Northern Road.

A hotel at 503 Wellington Street East was also vandalized when someone smashed some windows out.

Fall Seat Belt Campaign

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind motorists that wearing your seatbelt is the law and that if you are stopped by the City Police be prepared to pay the consequences of not wearing your seatbelt. Between October 3rd and October 13th members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service will be participating in the 2006 Fall Seatbelt Campaign. Don’t be surprised if you see the City Police and the Ontario Provincial Police working together on this campaign.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Ontario’s mandatory seatbelt law. In 1976, Ontario was the first Province to make the wearing of seatbelts mandatory. Spring and fall seatbelt campaigns have been an integral part of an education and enforcement initiative since 1993. Ontario residents enjoy the safest road network in Canada, yet there are 680,000 people who fail to wear their seatbelts.

This fall campaign will focus attention on proper seatbelt and child car seat use. Last year the Ontario government made booster seats mandatory for children under 8 years of age who weigh between 40 –80 pounds, and are less that 4’9” tall. Drivers who fail to use booster seats or child car seats for young passengers, or who use them incorrectly, face two demit points plus a $110 fine.

The 2004 Ontario Road Safety Annual Report reports that approximately one-third of fatally injured drivers and passengers were not wearing seatbelts. Unbelted passengers involved in fatal or personal injury collisions are nearly 14.3 times more likely to be killed and almost 4.8 times more likely to be hospitalized then belted passengers.

Surveys have revealed that seatbelt usage is as high as 92% in urban communities and for every 1% increase in seatbelt usage in Ontario, five lives are saved.
