Youth Charged with Personation, Possession & Breach

Just after 6 am this morning a 17-year old female youth turned herself into City on an outstanding warrant. It is alleged that on the 6th of September the accused identified herself as someone else when arrested by City Police during a vehicle stop. This resulted in someone else incorrectly being identified as an accused person in a crime. Officers from Investigation Services work on the incident and subsequently identified the proper accused. At the time of the offence on the 6th of September the accused was on probation with conditions including a curfew as well as conditions to keep the peace and be good. The youth has been charged with one count of personation, one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance and two counts of breach of probation. The youth has been remanded to Monday September 18th for bail court.

Release from September 8thm 2006:

Last evening shortly after 11 pm City Police stopped a vehicle on Farwell Terrace after receiving complaints of the vehicle driving in an erratic manner. A search of the vehicle resulted in a small quantity of cocaine being seized by the officers. 18-year old Arranda Forbes of 308 Korah Road has been charged with one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance. She will appear in court on October 16th. A 16-year old female youth was also charged with one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance and will appear in court on October 17th.

Update: Officers from Investigation Services received information yesterday from 18-year old Arranda (Forbes that she had not been involved in this incident. Officers have confirmed that another person impersonated Miss Forbes. As a result of this investigation, all charges against Miss Forbes are being withdrawn and the investigation is continuing into the personation investigation.


Youth Arrested with a Handgun

A 17-year old youth will appear in bail court this morning after being arrested yesterday morning. Information was received that the youth had a handgun in his waistband and that he was in the area of Anderson Road. Officers located the youth and place him under arrest. It is alleged that the youth had a small pellet gun in his waistband. At the time of the offence the youth was on conditions not to communicate with another youth, who was with the accused. The 17-year old male has been charged with one count of concealed weapon and one count of breach of a release order.

Youth Arrested on Breach

A 16-year old youth was arrested yesterday morning and charged with one count of breach of a release order. It is alleged that the female accused was with another youth who she was on conditions to refrain from communicating with. The youth has been charged with one count of breach of a release order. She will appear in court on October 17th.

More Copper Wire Thieves Caught

Last evening officers from Investigation Services arrested a second male, 19-year old Michael Armstrong of 217 Panoramic Drive, for theft of stolen copper wire. It is alleged that between June and August of this year the accused stole copper wire from the following locations:

1) Red Star Electric on Industrial Court on three different occasions;

2) PUC on Second Line East on two occasions;

3) Great Lakes Power sub station on Third Line East on two occasions and

4) Prince Lake wind farms on one occasion.

It is alleged that accused then sold the copper to a local scrap yard. The accused has been charged with four counts of theft under $5,000 and four counts of possession of property obtained by crime. The accused will appear in court on October 30th.

Update on Black Road Crash

Yesterdays Release:

Just before 8:30 am on the 13th of September officers from Traffic Services attended at Black Road and MacDonald Avenue for a single motor vehicle collision with injuries. A car operated by an 18-year old male was traveling northbound on Black Road. The vehicle attempted to turn onto MacDonald Avenue and slid over the north curb on MacDonald Avenue and slide along the guide wire from a utility pole. The vehicle then flipped onto its passenger side and came to a rest. The driver and one of the 3 passengers were taken to the Sault Area Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The vehicle was severely damaged. The investigation is ongoing

Update and Correction:

Officers from Traffic Services have completed their investigation into the motor vehicle collision. The 18-year old male driver has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with one count of improper left turn. Also, only one person, the driver of the car was taken to the Sault Area Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Yesterday’s release was incorrect.

Motor Vehicle Collision at Farwell & Second Line

Yesterday afternoon just after 5:10 pm officers from Patrol Services attended at the intersection of Second Line West and Farwell Terrace for a motor vehicle collision that sent one person to the Sault Area Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. A pickup truck, operated by a 62-year old male, was traveling west found on Second Line West. A car operated by a 31-year old female, was traveling southbound on Farwell Terrace. The traffic lights at the intersection were not working and both vehicles proceeded through the intersection and collided. The 31-year old female was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The collision is still under investigation.

Just A Reminder. . .

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind motorists of the rules of the road when approaching intersections where the traffic lights are malfunctioning.

Drivers facing traffic signals that aren’t illuminated are required by law to treat the intersection as a four-way stop.

Drivers facing a traffic control signal showing a circular flashing green indication may proceed forward, unless otherwise directed.

Drivers facing a traffic control signal showing a flashing circular amber indication may proceed with caution.

Drivers facing a traffic control signal showing a flashing circular red indication shall stop the vehicle and yield right of way to approaching traffic. Drivers may proceed when it is safe to do so.

In addition motorists need to be alert and aware of pedestrian traffic, cyclists and other road users who may be confused by malfunctioning lights and signals.

By remembering the rules of the road and implementing them properly you could avoid being involved in a motor vehicle collision.
