BOY ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT
On the 15th of August, 2003 at approximately 9:00 am, the accused, a 14-year-old youth assaulted another youth known to the accused by striking the victim with a rolled up newspaper and a catalogue.
The victim was not seriously injured in the assault. Yesterday at 9:15 am, patrol officers located the accused and arrested and charged him with Assault. He will appear in bail court.
DIDN’T KNOW WHEN TO STOP
Yesterday shortly after 5:00 pm, the victim, an adult female, was assaulted by her 21-year-old ex-boyfriend.
The victim and the accused began a verbal domestic argument that escalated to physical violence when the accused pushed the victim down and choked her. The victim was not seriously injured in the assault.
Patrol officers were called to the victim’s residence and at 6:05 pm they arrested and charged the ex-boyfriend with Assault. The accused was transported to the Police Services Building and shortly after 10:00 pm he was released from custody after agreeing to abide by an undertaking with conditions to attend court on October 20th and not to communicate or associate or molest, harass or annoy the victim.
Shortly after 4:30 am this morning patrol officers returned to the victim’s home where she advised police that the accused had assaulted her again.
Officers learned that the accused located the female as she was walking home at approximately 1:30 am. The accused argued with the victim about the charges and then dragged her across a city street. He then walked the victim to her residence where he grabbed her and threatened her. The accused then left the residence and proceeded to his home.
At 5:20 am patrol officers arrested and charged the accused with Assault, Threatening Bodily Harm and two counts of Breach of Undertaking. He will appear in bail court today.
FIGHTING IN THE YMCA PARKING OT
At 10:20 pm last evening, patrol officers were called to the YMCA parking lot at 235 McNabb Street where a male and female were fighting with each other.
Officers learned that a domestic argument had started between the boyfriend and girlfriend in the parking lot. This verbal argument led to punches being exchanged between the parties. The combatants left the parking lot in their car and were subsequently located on Algoma Avenue where they were once again arguing outside the car.
At 10:50 pm, patrol officers arrested and charged a 42-year-old male and a 34-year-old female with Assault. Both parties received minor injuries in the incident. Officers also located in the vehicle a small quantity of a white powdery substance, which is believed to be cocaine. The male was also charged with Possession of a Controlled Drug. They both will appear in court on October 20th.
BREAK & ENTERS
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded to several break-ins yesterday.
Just after 6:00 am yesterday morning officers were called to the Beaver Gas Bar on Korah Road where thieves removed a quantity of cigarettes.
At 9:30 am a homeowner on Edinburgh Street advised police that thieves had broken into his shed and stolen a lawnmower, weed trimmer and two inflatable mattresses.
At 9:50 am another resident of Edinburgh Street advised police that thieves entered his garage and stole a 2 hp Johnson Outboard motor, a Mastercraft drill press and two chainsaws.
