Three Wanted Males in Custody 27-year old Darcy Lebel of no fixed address and 21-year old Andre Laine of no fixed address were arrested together early this morning, just after 2 am.
Three Wanted Males in Custody

27-year old Darcy Lebel of no fixed address and 21-year old Andre Laine of no fixed address were arrested together early this morning, just after 2 am. Information had been received that the 2 males were heading into town in a cab from the north highway area.

As a result of this information Patrol officers and officers from the Emergency Services Unit stopped the vehicle on Great Northern Road and Sixth Line. The 2 males were taken into custody without incident. When searched, Mr. Lebel was found to have a small quantity of marijuana on him. It was further determined that neither of the males had money on them to pay for the cab.

In addition to the original charged that Lebel and Laine were wanted on, each of them faces an additional charge of transportation fraud and Lebel faces and additional charge of possession of a controlled drug or substance.

Yesterday morning just before 11 am the third male, Joss Vuotilainen turned himself in on the outstanding warrants. All three males will appear in bail court this morning. The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to thank the public for their assistance in all of the calls that were received in this investigation.


Male Charged with Possession of a Weapon for Purpose Dangerous to the Public

42-year old Stephen Woods of 3-321 Wellington Street West will appear in court on December 5th. Just before 5 pm yesterday City Police responded to a call in the 300 block of Wellington Street West regarding an arrow having just been fired into a fence in the rear parking lot of an address in the immediate area.

It is alleged that the accused was operating a compound bow in his apartment and was aiming at a pillow on a chair near an exterior window. It is alleged that the bow was accidentally discharged, and traveled out the window, narrowly missing 2 persons who were exiting a vehicle in a neighbouring lot and lodged into a fence. During the incident officers shut the road in the immediate area down to prevent vehicles and pedestrians from coming into the area. Officers located the accused in his apartment where he was taken into custody. Officers also located a 30-30 rifle unsafely stored in the apartment. The accused has been charged with one count of possession of a weapon for purpose dangerous to the public and one count of contravention of storage regulations-fail to safely store.

Youth Threatens Death

A 14-year old youth was arrested and charged with one count of threatening to cause death or bodily yesterday. The threat was directed to a female youth. The accused will appear in court on November 29th.

Male Charged with Assault

Yesterday afternoon officers from the High School Liaison Unit became involved in an assault investigation in one of the local high schools. It is alleged that between the 7th of September and the 27th of October a 19-year old male student has assaulted 10 students at the school. The incidents include punching the victims in the arm and leaving bruises, shoving the victims, pinching the victims in the arm, striking a victim with a water bottle, and poking with pencils. The male has been charged with 15 counts of assault and 2 counts of assault with a weapon. The male will appear in court on December 5th. The name of the accused is not being released to protect to identity of the victims.

Male Charged with Theft

53-year old Jewel Browe of 704 Wallace Terrace was arrested last evening at Rome’s grocery store. It is alleged that the accused attempted to leave the store without paying for some magazines that she had allegedly placed in her purse. The accused was apprehended by store security and turned over to City Police. The accused has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and will appear in court on November 28th.

Treat or Treat

On Monday night the little ghosts and goblins that will be out trick or treating will have some extra people helping the City Police keep an eye on them. Staff from Shaw Cable will be out during the evening as part of their “Pumpkin Patrol”. Members of the Twin Soo Radio Club will also be out keeping an extra eye on the little ones. This weekend would be a good time to go over safety ideas with your children.

Reminder

Also at midnight on Monday night the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind motorists that the winter parking prohibition by-law goes into effect. Citizens are reminded that as of November 1st at 12:01 am until midnight on March 31st, there is no parking of vehicles on City streets between midnight and 6 am. Persons who disobey this by-law will receive a $15 fine and may have their vehicle towed.
