The following Six Persons are to Appear in Bail Court This Morning:

1) 23 year-old John Bennett of 29 Ferguson Street was arrested on the 2nd of October at 1:45 am on Great Northern Road and charged with one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance, two counts of breach of probation and one count of mischief under $5,000.00. It is alleged that on the 2nd of October kicked and smashed a glass door at the Burger King Restaurant on Great Northern Road. At the time of the offence the accused was on probation with conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour and to not consume any alcohol. The accused was under the influence of alcohol at the time and also curfew conditions to be in his residence from 10 pm to 6 am.

2) A 20 year-old male was arrested at 3:50 am this morning and charged with three counts of assault, one count of forcible confinement and two counts of unauthorized possession of a weapon. It is alleged that at around 3:13 am this morning city police were called to a family dispute at an east end residence. When officers attended they discovered that the accused had assaulted three family members during the dispute. Police also found the accused to be in possession of a handgun magazine with rounds inside and a manually triggered expandable baton. Police also discovered that a 60 year-old male at the residence involved in the dispute was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to appear court on another matter. He was also arrested.

3) A 15 year-old male youth was arrested on the 1st of October at 5:35 pm and charged with one count of robbery, one count of threaten death or bodily harm, one count of breach of a release document, one count of breach of probation and one count of break, enter and commit. It is alleged that around 5 pm on the 1st of October, the accused broke into a garage at a centrally located residence and stole a mitre saw. When the accused was fleeing, he threatened the home owner who attempted to get the saw back from him. A passerby stopped to assist and the accused dropped the saw and fled. Officers located him a sort time later and arrested him. At the time of the offence the accused was on probation conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour and to notify police of his change of address.

4) A 30 year-old male was arrested on the 1st of October at 11:32 pm at his residence and charged with one count of criminal harassment. It is alleged that from December 2006 to the 1st of October the accused has criminally harassed his ex-girlfriend by attending at her residence on numerous occasions.

5) A 42 year-old male was arrested on the 1st of October at 8:45 am and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that on the 1st of October the accused attended at his ex-common law partner’s residence and assaulted her.

6) 42 year-old Robert McGaughey of 1239 Trunk Road was arrested on the 1st of October at 4:13 pm at the city police station and charged with one count of assault and one count of threaten death or bodily harm. It is alleged that on the 22nd of September the accused attended at the residence of a male known to him, assaulted and threatened him. He is to appear in court on the 8th of November.

Dumpster Fires under Investigation:


Investigation Services are currently investigating four dumpster fires that occurred in various areas of the city from the 30th of September to the early morning hours of the 1st of October. The first fire occurred on the 30th of September at 8:21 pm in the dumpster of Etienne Brule Public School on John Street. The second fire was in the dumpster at the Court House on Queen Street East on the 1st of October at 6:24 am. The third fire was reported on the 1st of October at 7:07 am in the garbage can near the dumpster at Precious Blood Cathedral on Queen Street East. The last fire was in the dumpster behind an apartment building on Manilla Terrace at approximately 7:19 am on the 1st of October. There are no other details to release at this time.

A scarecrow on the property of a residence on Boundary Road was set on fire.

Break and Enter Reports:

• A residence on Beverley Street was entered in the afternoon on the 1st of October. A laptop computer a camera a credit card and television were reported stolen.
• A trailer was entered at Johnson’s RV on Trunk Road a fridge/freezer and a stereo system were reported stolen.
• A residence on Albert Street West was entered sometime overnight on the first of October. Tools, CD’S and light fixtures were reported stolen.
• The Natural Resources Canada building on Airport Road was entered sometime overnight on the 1st of October. It is not known if anything was stolen.
