Three Car Accident with Injuries

On the 18th of October at 7:30 pm Sault Ste Marie Police Services, Fire Services and Ambulance Services responded to a motor vehicle collision involving three vehicles, sending one person to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. It is alleged that a Dodge pick up being operated by 41 year-old Brad Charette was west-bound on McNabb Street near the intersection of Lake Street, when it struck a westbound Ford pick up that was travelling in front of it being operated by a 29 year-old male driver. The Ford pick-up then struck another vehicle, a Pontiac car that was travelling in front of it, being operated by a 32 year-old male. The Dodge pick up veered off the roadway struck a utility light pole and came to rest against the apartment building complex located on the south-west corner of Lake Street and McNabb Street. The 29 year-old male driver of the Ford pick up was transported to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. There was minimal damage to the pole and building.

As a result, 41 year-old Brad Charette of 262 Ironside Drive has been charged with one count of careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

The following three persons will be appearing in bail court this morning as a result of domestic related incidents:

1) A 33 year-old male was arrested on the 19th of October at 2:40 am on McNabb Street and charged with one count of assault and once count of mischief under $5,000.00. It is alleged that on the 19th of October at 2 am the accused while in his girlfriends vehicle in the area of McNabb Street and Black Road, got into a verbal argument with her and assaulted her by spitting in her face. It is further alleged that he damaged her vehicle by denting the roof and smashing a window out when he punched it. The victim was not injured.

2) A 16 year-old male was arrested on the 18th of October at 3:20 pm at his centrally located residence and charged with three counts of assault, one count of assault with a weapon and one count of forcible entry. It is alleged that sometime between the 17th and the 23rd of June 2007 the accused attended at his ex-girlfriends residence and got into a verbal argument with her after forcing his way in when she refused him entry. It is further alleged that on the 6th of October the same ex-girlfriend was walking in the area of her residence with a male friend when they were confronted by the accused that was holding a small utility knife in his hand. The accused allegedly attempted to lash out at the male but was stopped by the ex-girlfriend who was then pushed to the ground by the accused. This same male victim was assaulted by the accused again on the 17th of October. He was pushed to the ground and was punched and kicked numerous times. He received non-life threatening injuries in this incident. It is alleged that on the 8th of October the accused assaulted his ex-girlfriend once again by shoving her in the shoulder while he was following her in the area of her residence.

3) A 22 year-old male and a 21 year-old female were arrested on the 19th of October at 3:25 am and both charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that on the 19th of October just after 3 am the two got into a verbal argument and a physical altercation at their residence. The female was punched in the head and the male was also punched and bitted in the incident. The male will be appearing in bail court this morning and the female is to appear in court on the 21st of November.

Seven Students Arrested

City police were called by staff to a local high school at 12:32 pm on the 18th of October regarding several youths that were in a vehicle in the parking lot. It is alleged that one of the youths wanted to confront a student at the school. Staff members confronted the youths in the vehicle to direct them off the property at which time they observed a bat in the vehicle and one of the youths with a Halloween mask on and another brandishing a knife. The youths fled in the vehicle just prior to police arrival. A plate and description of the vehicle were given. Officers searched the area and located the vehicle in the Fort Creek Conservation area lot with one male youth driver inside. The Canine unit attended and commenced a track. Four of the suspects were located in the Sherwood Park area. Through further investigation officers were able to identify the other youths involved and their locations.

The following seven persons were arrested regarding this incident:

20 year-old Brandon Hache of 45 Hocking Avenue was charged with one count of possession of a weapon dangerous to public. He is to appear in court on the 26th of November.

A 17 year-old male driver of the vehicle was charged with possession of a weapon for purpose dangerous to public. He is to appear in court on the 27th of November.

A 17 year-old male youth is charged with one count of weapon for purpose dangerous to public and two counts of breach of probation for not keeping the peace and being of good behaviour. He is to appear in bail court this morning.

A 17 year-old male youth was charged with one count of possession of a weapon dangerous to public, two counts of breach of probation and one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance. When this male was arrested he was found to be in possession of two bags of marijuana. He is to appear in bail court this morning.

Three 17 year-old male youths were charged with one count of possession of a weapon for purpose dangerous to public. All three are to appear in court on the 27th of November.
