Break and enters
City Police are investigating two break and enters that occurred in the last 24 hours. Break –Ins were reported to residences in the 100 block of River Rd., where jewellery and a lap top computer were stolen, and to a home in the 100 block of Woodward Ave. where a quantity of money was stolen. Residents in these two areas are asked to contact the City Police if the recall seeing any suspicious persons in their neighborhoods yesterday.
Male charged with theft
Yesterday evening at approx. 6:00 PM City Police were called to attend at Pino’s Fresh Mart, on Trunk Rd., and arrested a male person for Theft Under $ 5,000.00. It is alleged that the male attempted to steal four packages of lobster. Charged is Russell Barton, D.O.B.: 19 April 1958, of 180 Glasgow Ave. He will be appearing in court on Jan 10th at 9:00 AM.
Counterfeit money
On November 24th City Police officers attended at the Station Mall after receiving a complaint of a male passing counterfeit $10 bills at a number of stores. Officers located a male in the mall that matched the description of the suspect, and when the male was searched after being arrested, officers located a number of counterfeit $10 bills in his possession. Kevin Charrette, age 35, of Brantford, Ontario has been charged with one count of possession of counterfeit money and will appear in bail court this morning. Officers from the Fraud Unit are continuing the investigation in the matter. Businesses in town are asked to check for counterfeit $10 bills with the serial numbers FEL3790261 or FEM9344819. If you have one of these bills, contact the Fraud Unit at 949-6300 ext 360 or 388. "
Please note that an additional serial number has been identified as counterfeit. The following three serial numbers on ten-dollar notes have been circulating in the Sault Ste. Marie area and are linked to a counterfeit investigation:

Motor vehicle
City Police investigated 30 motor vehicle collisions as a result of yesterday’s fresh snowfall. Motorists are reminded to start slowing down and braking sooner when approaching stop signs and traffic signals. The roads near intersections can be very slippery after and during a fresh snowfall.
Young girl collides with car
Yesterday afternoon, at approx. 5:20 PM a young girl was sliding down the hill in front of Mount
St. Joseph when she collided with an eastbound car. The City Police Traffic Department would like to speak to the driver of the vehicle involved and any witnesses. The vehicle involved is a maroon coloured 2-door car with tinted windows.
Theft from vehicles
There were two reports of theft from vehicles yesterday. One vehicle parked in the 500 block of Second Line W. and another parked in the 500 block of Cooper St. were entered. It is not known what was taken at this time.
