Motor Vehicle Collisions City Police were kept very busy yesterday investigating 27 motor vehicle collisions. The majority of the collisions occurred during 7 am and 9 am and again between 3 pm and 7 pm.

City Police were kept very busy yesterday investigating 27 motor vehicle collisions. The majority of the collisions occurred during 7 am and 9 am and again between 3 pm and 7 pm. Fortunately no one required medial treatment in any of the collisions.The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind motorists to slow down and adjust your driving to the road conditions. Pay extra attention at intersections and remember to allow yourself a little extra time to arrive at your destination.

Numerous Charges Laid

A 19-year old person will appear in bail court this morning after being arrested just before 2 am this morning by City Police. Officers attended in the 100 block of South Eden in regards to a person breaking into the garages in the area. Information was received that a homeowner was holding the suspect. It is alleged that the accused stole a pickup truck from a civic address in that block and attempted to drive away with the owner in the rear of the pickup truck. It is alleged that the accused attempted to cause injury to the owner of the vehicle by causing the vehicle to swerve back and forth from side to side. It is unknown if the vehicle owner received any injuries, but it does not appear at this time that medical treatment was required. Officers arrested the 19-year old accused and when searched they found identification on the accused that did not belong to them. A query revealed that the accused was a prohibited driver, was on probation orders both under the Criminal Code of Canada and the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA). The accused was also on a curfew order under on the probation orders. Further investigation by the officers revealed that the accused had broken into a garage in the 200 block of South Eden. Officers also learned that the accused had allegedly trespassed on the property of 3 houses during the night in the 100 block of South Eden, one house in the 200 block of Laurier Avenue and one house in the 200 block of Glasgow Avenue. The accused has been charged with one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, one count of operate motor vehicle while disqualified-court order, one count of possession of property obtained by crime, one count of theft over $5,000, one count of break and enter and commit an offence, 5 counts of trespass by night, 3 counts of breach of probation and one count of breach of probation under the YCJA. Due to the YCJA charge the name of the adult cannot be released.

Youths Break and Enter

Around 7 pm last night it is alleged that 3 youths broke into an address in the 200 block of Queen Street East with the intent to commit a crime, however the youths fled the area upon police arrival. Officers did locate one youth immediately and that 17-year old youth was charged with one count of break and enter with the intent to commit a break and enter and one count of breach of probation under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA). It appears that nothing was taken in the break and enter. The 17-year old youth will appear in court on December 22nd. As the patrol officers continued their investigation into the break and enter they learned the identity of the other 2 suspects-one of who was 15 years old and the other one who was 16 years old. Officers also learned that the 15 and 16-year-old youths were on conditions not to be with each other. Members of the Street Team assisted officers from patrol services and they soon learned the two suspects were in the Station Mall. Officers headed over the Mall but the 2 suspects fled the area on foot. The Tazer and the Canine Unit joined the officers from Patrol Services and the Street Team. The quick containment of the area and the teamwork of the officers resulted in both suspects being arrested in the downtown area. Offices themselves located the two accused persons with the assistance of Tazer. The 15-year old was arrested and charged with one count of break and enter with the intent to commit an offence, three counts of breach of probation under the YCJA and one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance for purpose of trafficking. When officers searched the youth they located 5 individually wrapped grams of marijuana with a street value of $100. The 16-year old youth was charged with one count of break and enter with the intent to commit an offence, three counts of breach of probation under the YCJA and one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance for the purpose of trafficking. When officers searched this accused they located 7 individually wrapped grams of marijuana with a street value of $140. Both the 16 and 15-year-old youth will appear in bail court this morning.


Break and Enter

City Police received two other break and enter reports yesterday. Between the 14th of October and the 10th of November thieves broke into a storage area in the 100 block of Grosvenor Avenue and removed an assortment of tools and a 2 wheel dolly. A home in the 700 block of Metzger Street was entered yesterday between 12 noon and 2:30 pm. Thieve stole beer and homemade wine.


Reminder about the Santa Clause Parade and the road closures.

The Santa Claus Parade is scheduled to take place on Saturday November 19th. The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind motorists they will need to seek alternate routes that evening. Starting at 5 pm Queen Street East between Pine Street and Pim Street will be closed to allow for the line up of the participants in the parade. If you are leaving the Station Mall or other down town businesses, please utilized Gore Street or some of the cross roads such as Dennis Street or Tancred Street.
At 6 pm the entire stretch of Queen Street East between Pine Street and up to Gore Street will be closed. Gore Street itself will remain open. Uniformed Police Officers from the City Police will have the intersections closed. You will not be able to cross any of the side streets. Once the parade has progressed through the route, then the roads will be opened up again.

If you need to access the Sault Area Hospital you will only be able to cross at the intersection of Kohler Street and Queen Street. Officers working at this intersection will be able to stop the parade to allow for this access.
