“At 4:39 am this morning Patrol Officers were called to the Mike’s Mart on Wellington Street East for a robbery. The officer’s investigation revealed that a male in his 30’s, wearing glasses, blue jeans and a disguise to cover his face used a hunting type of knife to rob the store.

The suspect was last observed running south on Pine Street away from the store. No one was injured in the robbery and a small quantity of cash was taken. Detectives are currently investigating this matter and anyone with information on this robbery is asked to contact the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service at 949-6300 or Crime Stoppers.”

On the 4th of November 2003, the accused, Richard Briere, age 44 of 325 Village Road, Blind River attended at local trading store with a quantity of hockey cards. The accused wanted to sell these to the storeowner who recognized a quantity of cards that were his and had been taken in a break and enter from late spring.

Detectives located the accused at the Algonquin Hotel and he was arrested for possession of stolen property.

Investigation revealed that Briere was also responsible for the Mike’s Mart robbery on November 4th, along with two break and enters to trading store from the spring of this year. Detectives laid the additional charges of Robbery and Break and Enter. His court date is November 19th.

ASSAULT CHARGE LAID
On the 5th of November at approximately 3:35 pm the accused Vittorio D'Aniello, age 69 of 121 Henrietta Street assaulted the victim, a young male, by throwing him to the ground. The victim received minor injures in the assault. Yesterday morning, at 9:35 am the accused attended the City Police Station and was charged with Assault. He will appear in court December 15th.

FAILING TO APPEAR IN COURT
In the late spring, Ken Arniel, age 36 of 64 East Champagne Drive was arrested and charged with Threatening. He failed to attend at court for this charge in early November and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Yesterday, he turned himself in at the City Police Station. In addition to his Threatening charge, he has now been charged with Failing to Appear in Court. His new court date is December 15th.

BREACH OF PROBATION
Yesterday afternoon, at approximately 1:32 pm patrol officers were called to a local residence regarding a threatening complaint. Officers learned that during the summer, Richard Nadon, age 46 of A-Line St. Joseph’s Island, had been threatening an adult female.

At 1:45 pm patrol officers went to a residence in the east end of the city and located Nadon. He was arrested and charged with Threatening and two counts of Breach of Probation. He will appear in bail court today.

SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN DRIVING
Yesterday morning at 11:35 pm Giuseppe Denisi, age 26 of 29 Birchland Court was involved in a motor vehicle collision on McNabb Street, Sault Ste. Marie where he was the driver of pick up truck. The collision was of a minor nature, with no injures and involved a plow truck.

A police records check revealed that Denisi was Prohibited from Driving. Patrol officers arrested and charged him with this offence. He will appear in court on December 22nd.

ALCOHOL A FACTOR
This morning at 2:58 am, patrol officers located a white Toyota idling in the Fort Creek Conservation Area. The officers noted that the lone occupant, Michael Perhonen, age 20 of 757 5th Line East, was apparently asleep behind the steering wheel.

When questioned by police the accused displayed signs of alcohol impairment and was subsequently arrested for Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle while his ability to operate it was Impaired by Alcohol. He was transported to the Police Station for breath tests and subsequently charged with the impaired offence. A court date was set for later in the year.

At approximately 3:45 am the accused was released from police custody and a cab was called for him. Shortly before 4:00 am patrol officers observed the white Toyota exiting the Fort Creek Conservation Area. The vehicle was stopped by the police and the accused, Michael Perhonen, age 20, was again arrested and this time he was charged with Impaired Driving and Driving over .08. He will appear in bail court today.

BREAK IN
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service investigated one break in yesterday. At 6:37 am Patrol Officers investigated a break in at the Steamy Bean at 332 Great Northern Rd. A small quantity of cash was taken. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service at 949-6300 or Crime Stoppers.

YESTERDAY’S WEATHER
In the past 24 hours Police Officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service investigated 16 motor vehicle collisions. Most were of a minor nature and could be attributed to drivers failing to adjust to winter driving conditions. To ensure a safe weekend for everyone, motorists are reminded to exercise extra care when driving and to adjust their driving according to the road conditions
