Male Driver Arrested after Striking Pedestrian on Macdonald Avenue and Fleeing Scene:

39 year-old Christopher Mitchell of no fixed address was arrested on the 12th of November at 7:08 am in the apartment complex parking lot at 135 Cambridge Place and charged with one count of fail to remain at the scene of an accident, one count of unauthorized possession of a weapon, one count of possession of ammunition while prohibited, one count of assault with a weapon, one count of assault with intent to resist police, one count of escape lawful custody and four counts of possession of a controlled drug or substance. It is alleged that around 6:47 am on the 12th of November the accused was operating a Chevy Cavalier eastbound on Macdonald Avenue when he lost control in the area of the 600 block and drove up onto the sidewalk area. A pedestrian that was walking on the sidewalk on the north side of Macdonald Avenue observed the vehicle approaching and attempted to jump out of the way. The vehicle did graze and come into contact with the pedestrian and the accused driver failed to stop. The vehicle also struck a tree and sign as it as it drove off erratically in an eastbound direction. The 47 year-old female pedestrian received minor injuries that did not require medical attention at the time. Officers responding to the accident quickly located the accused and the vehicle in the parking lot of 136 Cambridge place. When police attempted to detain the accused, he ran away, but was quickly apprehended after a short foot pursuit. At the time of his arrest, the accused continuously resisted, struggled and attempted to strike the officer. He was also found in possession of a small amount of marijuana, crack cocaine, oxycontin, morphine, a buck style knife that opens with centrifugal force and a .45 caliber Winchester bullet. The accused is to appear in bail court this morning.
