Traffic Services and Ministry of Environment Conduct Spot Checks

On the 4th and 5th of June 2013, officers with Traffic Services working in conjunction with Enforcement Officers from the Ministry of the Environment, conducted a selective enforcement initiative targeting vehicle emissions at several locations in Sault Ste Marie.  As a result of this initiative 72 vehicles were inspected with 36 of them failing.  A total of 31 Provincial Offence Act Notices were issued under the Environmental Protection Act and the Highway Traffic Act with 1 vehicle having its plates seized and towed for being unsafe.

Motorists are reminded that vehicles must have the proper emissions systems and those that remove or modify them contrary to the legislation will be charged accordingly.

City Police were kept busy responding to bear sighting calls in the Glengary Gate Cr. and Cooper Street areas as well as in the “P” patch area of Pentagon and Promenade Blvds. Once again, the public is reminded to try and exercise due diligence with regards to leaving anything outdoors which would likely attract the attention of bears.
