STUDENT'S SUMMER VACATION SAFETY TIPS
The coming of summer means children will be out of school shortly for their summer break. Hundreds of young pedestrians will be making their way home from school and will be extremely excited knowing that two months of fun in the sun is ahead of them.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind drivers to be extra cautious and diligent when traveling through school zones next week. Motorists should also watch for children entering and exiting school buses, or running out onto the roadways while on their way home.

Drivers should also remain vigilant throughout the rest of the summer, keeping an eye out for children, who will be playing in a variety of areas throughout the day. When playing or pre-occupied with friends the last thing on a child's mind is traffic safety.

Parents should also speak with their children and remind them of the 'play safe' rules for the summer. Here are some safety highlights:

**Wear all safety equipment, including a helmet, when riding a bicycle.

**Look in all directions when crossing the street.

**Educate your children about 'Who is a Stranger'.

**Teach children how to handle encounters with strangers, to increase their safety.

**Maintain a 'buddy system' when playing or walking home (safety in numbers).

**If spending more time on the Internet - cyber proof your children.

**Parents should remain informed of events occurring in your children's lives.

The members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service wish everyone a safe and injury-free summer!
