Domestic Related Arrest: A 58 year-old male was arrested on the 30th of July at 7:26 am on Queen Street East and charged with one count of Assault Causing Bodily Harm.
Domestic Related Arrest:

A 58 year-old male was arrested on the 30th of July at 7:26 am on Queen Street East and charged with one count of Assault Causing Bodily Harm. It is alleged that on the 30th of July around 5 am the accused got into a verbal argument with his wife at their residence, assaulted her and fled the residence. Officers located the accused a few hours later walking on Queen Street East and made the arrest. The victim received non-life threatening injuries that required medical attention. The accused is to appear in bail court this morning.

Male Charged with Mischief after Damaging Police Station Cell:

21 year-old Norman Bourgeois of 4824 Second Line West was arrested on Broadview Avenue on the 31st of July at 1:55 am and has been charged with one count of Breach of the Peace and one count of Mischief under $5,000.00. On the 31st of July around 3:38 am City Police received a call regarding a fight on Broadview Avenue and when they arrived the accused was found in an agitated state. It is alleged that he began yelling and kicking the windows of the police cruiser when officers were questioning him. While the accused was in custody at the police station he caused damage to the cell. He is to appear in court on the 3rd of August.

Shoplifter Arrested:

43 year-old Douglas Boston of #205-41 Old Garden River Road was arrested on the 30th of July at 3:20 pm at Zellers on Northern Avenue and charged with one count of Theft under $5,000.00. It is alleged that at 3:10 pm the accused attended at the store and stole some items. He was apprehended by store security and held for police He is to appear in court on the 13th of September.

Property Crimes:

Break and Enter To Golf Club on Queen Street East:


City police attended to a break and enter at 5:14 am this morning at the Sault Ste Marie Golf Club on Queen Street East. An employee arriving at work observed a male running from the snack bar and called police. The suspect ran towards a waiting van that was parked on Boundary Road and jumped into the passenger side. The driver, another male suspect, sped off towards Bennett Boulevard. Officers arrived in the area but could not locate the van. The first suspect was described as being approximately 6 feet tall, 185 pounds and was wearing a dark hoodie.

Break and Enter to Bethel Bible Chapel on Black Road:

On the 30th of July at 7:14 pm City Police responded to an alarm at the Bethal Bible Chapel on Black Road. Officers attended and discovered entry was gained. Officers searched the area but could not locate any suspects in the area. At this time it does not appear anything was taken as the alarm may have scarred the suspect/s off.

Mischief Report:

The playground equipment at Ben R. McMullin School on Paradise Avenue was spray painted.

With the Civic Holiday fast approaching, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to offer and remind the public of some safety tips to make your Holiday Long Weekend more enjoyable and safe for you and your family.

Each Long Weekend during the summer we all hear of tragedies that could have been avoided. Homes are broken into while their owners are away, motorists are killed or injured in motor vehicle collisions or vacations are ruined when vehicles are entered and the owner’s belongings are taken. Many of these tragedies could be avoided with some careful planning, as well as driving more safely and responsibly.

GOING AWAY

• Make your home appear occupied when you go out.
• Leave lights on and the radio playing.
• Keep your garage door closed and locked.
• Use timing devices to turn inside lights on and off.
• If you will be gone several days, arrange to have the mail and papers stopped or picked up.
• Inform your trusted neighbours you will be away and ask them to keep an eye on you residence.
• Half of all home burglaries occur during the day when alert neighbors could spot and report the thieves.

WHILE ON THE ROAD

• Keep your car in good condition with the gas tank at least half full.
• Park in well-lighted areas and lock your doors, no matter how long you’ll be gone.
• Put valuables out of sight or in the trunk.
• Check front and rear seats, and floorboards before entering your car.
• Never pick up hitchhikers.
• Avoid underground and enclosed parking garages if possible.
• When parking or returning to your vehicle, carry your keys and be aware of your surroundings.
• Consider investing in a cellular telephone and try not to use it while driving. If you feel it necessary to call someone pull over to a safe area and complete the call.
• If you are consuming alcohol, do not operate a motor vehicle or powered watercraft.
