Elder assaulted this morning City police have taken a 29-year-old man into custody after an elderly citizen was assaulted this morning in the 100 block of Old Garden River Road. Police were called to a house there just before 5:30 a.m.

City police have taken a 29-year-old man into custody after an elderly citizen was assaulted this morning in the 100 block of Old Garden River Road. Police were called to a house there just before 5:30 a.m. The assaulted elder was taken to Sault Area Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The crime scene has been secured by police and witnesses are currently being interviewed. The 29-year-old man was taken into custody on a charge related to a breach of release document. He remains in custody pending further investigation, police say.

Motor Vehicle Collision

43-year-old David Culbert of 3-413 Albert Street West will be appearing in bail court this morning after being involved in a motor vehicle collision yesterday afternoon at Bruce Street and Wellington Street East. Mr. Culbert was operating a car and was travelling northbound on Bruce Street when he turned left onto Wellington Street East and collided with a car driven by Cynthia Medig of 344 Prentice Avenue. No one required any medical treatment and the vehicle damage is described as moderate to severe. Mr. Culbert, however, showed signs of impairment. The accused was also found to be on conditions to refrain from alcohol consumption. Mr. Culbert has been charged with one count of fail to provide breath sample, one count of breach of a release document and two counts of breach of probation.
