The following persons will appear in bail court this morning:
1) A 30-year old male turned himself in yesterday to police on an outstanding warrant. It is alleged that in August of 2006 the accused threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend. At the time of the offence the accused was on probation with conditions to keep the peace and be good. The incident was reported to the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service in January of this year. The accused has been charged with one count of threatening to cause death or bodily harm and one count of breach of probation.
2) 31-year old Lori Legault of no fixed address was arrested last evening and charged with one count of breach of probation. Officers attended at a local motel regarding a noise complaint involving the accused. A query of her revealed that she was wanted on a warrant for breach of probation.
3) A 24-year old female was arrested last evening and charged with one count of assault. Officers attended at a west end address regarding a domestic dispute. It is alleged that the accused assaulted her common law husband by slapping him.
Women Charged with Fraud
Yesterday officers from the Fraud Unit arrested and charged 32-year old Vera-Ann Shaganash of 74 Atwater with one count of uttering a forged document and one count of fraud over $5,000. It is alleged that in December of 2006 the accused defrauded the Northern Credit Union of $8500 by depositing counterfeit American Express gift cheques and international money orders knowing they were counterfeit. It is further alleged that the accused forged a document causing the Northern Credit Union to act on these items. The accused will appear in court on February 12th.
The following break and enters were reported in the last 24-hour period:
1) Sometime between 6 pm on the 10th of January and 6 am on the 11th of January a window was broken at MGP Architecturing on East Street. The building was entered by nothing appears to have been taken.
2) Yesterday between 1:30 pm and 4:30 pm a home on Elizabeth Street was entered. Items taken include jewellery and DVD’s.
Vehicle's Being Entered
Thefts from vehicle are still a common occurrence that the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is receiving reports on. Yesterday a vehicle in the Zellers parking lot on Northern Avenue was entered. Nothing was taken but the window was broken. A vehicle was also entered yesterday afternoon between 2 pm and 4:30 pm at the Red Cross Building on Allard Street. Thieves smashed out a window in a vehicle and stole a canvass bag containing several personal items. The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind motorists not to leave any items of value visible in your vehicle. Items taken have included purses, wallets, cameras, cell phones, laptops and other high-end items. Also do not leave money or loose change visible in your vehicle. A thief who steals loose change from a number of vehicles can very quickly accumulate a few dollars. If you see anyone suspicious hanging around parking lots or vehicles contact the police and report the incident
Yesterday the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service received two reports of theft of snow blowers:
1) An 8hp Mastercraft snow blower was taken from a carport on Grand Boulevard between 7:20 am and 10 am.
2) A snow blower was taken from the driveway of a home in the 100 block of Fourth Line West between 8:15 am and 12 noon.
