SHOPLIFTING Michael Harold Bjornaa, age 19 of 28 Hughes Street, will appear in bail court this morning after he was arrested and charged Thursday with Theft under $5000 and Breach of recognizance.

Michael Harold Bjornaa, age 19 of 28 Hughes Street, will appear in bail court this morning after he was arrested and charged Thursday with Theft under $5000 and Breach of recognizance. Bjornaa is alleged to have entered the Sears store, selected a pair of gloves from the shelf, removed the tags and then exited the store. He was apprehended by store security and held for city police officers.


BAD CHEQUES
41-year-old Todd Alan Petrie of 186 Albert Street West will appear in bail court this morning after having been charged with fraud and 2 counts of attempt fraud. All 3 charges stem from incidents at the Lyons Timber Mart where it is alleged that Mr. Petrie made one purchase on Feb. 10th and attempted to make other purchases on Feb. 11th and 13th. The accused wrote cheques for his purchases from an account that is reported to have been closed.


TRAFFIC STOP NETS SEVERAL CHARGES
A traffic stop on Queen Street East resulted in 19-year-old Roderick Springuay having an appearance in bail court this morning. Mr. Springuay, a passenger in the motor vehicle is alleged to have been drinking alcoholic beverages and having beer in his packsack. He is on a recognizance and probation order not to consume. It was also determined that Springuay had outstanding warrants for failing to attend court on February 4th for the original charges of criminal harassment, breach of probation and breach of recognizance.


DRUG BUST
On Wednesday February 25th officers from the joint force drug unit executed a search warrant at 81 Letcher Street. The search of that residence resulted in officers locating cannabis marihuana valued at $1400, drug paraphernalia and an illegal satellite television receiver. Justin Caleb Jones, age 22, will appear in court on March 29th charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the satellite receiver.


OUTSTANDING ARREST WARRANT
At 10:55 yesterday morning 40 year-old Paula Anne Desrochers of 225 Huron Street turned herself in to city police. Ms. Desrochers had an outstanding arrest warrant for failing to appear in court on December 15th of 2003. Ms. Desrochers was to appear in court on possession for the purpose of trafficking charges from a search that was conducted at an Albert St. West residence on November 7th, 2003. A March15th court date has been set.


AN ADDITIONAL 64 CHARGES
On Wednesday of this week Richard Nanchin was appearing in bail court on numerous charges of attempt fraud, personation and forgery. Detectives from the Fraud unit of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, in continuing their investigation have charged Mr. Nanchin with an additional 64 charges of similar offences. It is alleged that Mr. Nanchin attempted to apply for or received credit cards in the names of other persons. He is appearing in bail court this morning at 10:00.
