2 Man Charged with Assault, Threatening & Sexual Assault
On the 15th of February 2007 around 4 am officers from Patrol Services attended at an address on Hawthorne Avenue regarding a disturbance. It is alleged that two males attended at an address and broke into the home. The homeowner was taken out to a vehicle and taken for a very short car ride and then returned to the residence. The male homeowner and another male who was in the home were both assaulted and threatened. One of the male victims was assaulted in a sexual manner by one of the accused as well. The two accused persons and the homeowner are known to each other. The two victims received injuries but did not require medical treatment at the time of the incident. Officers from Patrol Services arrested the two males shortly after arriving at the residence and officers from Investigation Services were called out and continued to work on the investigation yesterday. The following persons have been charged and will appear in bail court:
1) 36-year old James Newton of no fixed address has been charged with one count of break and enter and commit an offence, two counts of unlawful confinement, one count of sexual assault, one count of assault, one count of assault causing bodily harm, two counts of threatening to cause death or bodily harm and one count of kidnap with the intent to be confined.
2) 32-year old Ryan Walker of 185D Jardin Mine Road, Garden River has been charged with one count of break and enter and commit an offence, two counts o f forcible confinement, one count of assault, two counts of threatening to cause death or bodily harm and one count of kidnap with the intent to confine.
Driving while Disqualified
Shortly after 9 pm last night officers arrested 22-year old Tommy Kidder of 261 Pittsburgh Avenue and charged him with one count of operate motor vehicle while disqualified. It is alleged that the accused was driving a vehicle on Second Line East and was stopped by police. Officers determined that the accused was a disqualified driver. He will appear in court on March 26th.
Possession on Property Obtained in a Crime
32-year-old Jason Alexander of 370 John Street was arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with one count of possession of property obtained by crime. It is alleged that the accused was in the Station Mall while prohibited under the Trespass to Property Act. Mall Security arrested the accused under this Act and when he was searched they located two 60-ounce bottles of vodka that had not been paid for. Police attended and the accused as arrested for having the stolen property. He will appear in court on March 19th.
Youth Charged with Assault with a Weapon
A 15-year old male youth was arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with one count of assault with a weapon and one count of possession of a weapon for purpose dangerous to the public. It is alleged that on the 14th of February the accused pointed an air gun at another youth and shot him several times. The accused will appear in court on March 20th.
A number of break and enters were reported in the last 24-hour period:
1) Between the 14th of February at 9 pm and the 15th of February at 7 am the cafeteria at Algoma University was entered. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken from the break in.
2) On the 15th of February between 11 am and 5 pm a residence on Peoples Road was entered and jewellery was taken.
3) Last evening between 6:30 pm and 8:30 pm a home in the 100 block of Albert Street East was entered and a book of cheques was taken.
