On August 8, 2014 a domestic argument out on the street led the City Police to an address in the west end of the city. On arrival, it was determined a man had just been recently released on conditions not to communicate with his ex-girlfriend.

On arrival, it was determined a man had just been recently released on conditions not to communicate with his ex-girlfriend. Several neighbors witnessed the verbal exchange. The man will be appearing in bail court on the 10 August 2014 at 10:00 AM.

Between the 2nd of August and the 7th of August a residence on Douglas Street was broken into.  Items taken include an 18 volt Dewalt Drill, black Hot Rod compressor 25 foot hose and a Hawkeye Laser Compound Mitre Saw.

On the 7 of August 2014 a homeowner on Cunningham Road reported some suspicious activity to the police.

Just after 5 am persons inside the residence were woken by the smell of smoke and noticed that smoke was coming into the residence. 

The owner attended outside the residence and located an item that had been burned. 

Police are not releasing what was burned at this time; however the fire was minor in nature and did not involve any structure or vehicle.

Officers from Investigation Services are currently investigating the fire.  Investigators are mindful that there were a number of fires in the Wellington Street East area recently; however there is no present link between the fire on Cunningham and the fires on Wellington Street East.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is requesting residents to notify them of anything suspicious in these areas. 

Residents in these areas are asked to inspect their property and to report to the police any items that may have been burned recently.

In addition the following precautions can also be taken:

-report all suspicious activity or people to police immediately

-install motion detectors near the rear of homes or out buildings

-keep yards and laneways tidy

-don’t put garbage or recycling containers out until the morning of pickup

-don’t leave or store old mattresses and furniture in backyards, carports or laneways

-dispose of garden trimmings promptly

-store all flammable materials safely and out of sight

On August 8, 2014 at approximately 1:20 a.m. city police attended at 410 Pim Street regarding the theft of a wallet that had occurred on July 16, 2014. 

It is alleged that the accused Jimmy Rowland, age 19 of 129 Grosvenor Avenue, took a wallet out of the victim’s purse. 

The accused then [allegedly] took a debit card out and used it to purchase gas on 3 occasions and later threw the wallet and contents out of his vehicle.

Police arrested the accused for theft of a credit card, using a stolen credit card and theft under $5,000. 

The accused will appear in court on September 15, 2014 at 9 a.m.
