Male Charged with Breach of Release
23-year old Joseph Elie of 483 Second Avenue will appear in bail court this morning after being arrested just before 1 am this morning. Mr. Elie was wanted on a warrant for breach of release document. On April 26th City Police received information that Mr. Elie was not residing at an address specified on the release order. Officers confirmed this and requested the warrant. Mr. Elie was arrested at a local drinking establishment by officers and when searched officers located a double edged knife inside the accused pants as well as a cue ball concealed in a sock in the accused jacket pocket. Mr. Elie has been charged with one count of breach of a release document, one count of concealed weapon, one count of possession of a weapon for the purpose dangerous to the public and 4 counts of breach of probation.
Assault Charges Laid
A 22-year old male will appear in bail court after being arrested for assault last evening. It is alleged that the couple got into a verbal argument that escalated and ended with the accused slapping the victim in the face. The victim did not require medical treatment. The accused has been charged with one count of assault. The incident took place in a downtown residence.
Male Charged with Assault to Girlfriend
A 30-year old male will appear in bail court this morning after being arrested yesterday morning. It is alleged that on the 26th of April the accused assaulted his girlfriend by pushing her to the bed, getting on top of her and stuffing food into her mouth to the point where she felt she was suffocating. The accused was on probation at the time of the incident. The assault took place in a central part of town. The accused has been charged with one count of assault.
Fraud Charges Against 3 Persons
City Police arrested 3 persons yesterday in connection to an empty envelope fraud. It is alleged that 23-year-old Mark MacDonald of 39 Amber Street, 24-year old Laura Agawa of 101 Forest Avenue and 23-year-old Theresa Agawa of 48 Cunningham Road acted together. It is alleged that on the 18th of April MacDonald conspired with the 2 females to deposit the empty envelope and obtain $400, which they successfully did. A second empty envelope fraud also took place in the early morning hours of the 19th for the same amount of money. Total money obtained was $800 and both Theresa Agawa and Mark MacDonald are alleged to have committed the offences together at the banking machine. On the 27th of April MacDonald contacted police to report that Theresa Agawa had stolen his bankcard, which lead to the investigation that resulted in the arrests. Laura Agawa has been charged with one count of conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, Theresa Agawa had been charged with 2 counts of empty envelope fraud, and Mark MacDonald has been charged with 2 counts of conspiracy to commit fraud under $5,000, 2 counts of fraud under $5,000 and one count of public mischief. All accused persons will appear in court on June 6th.
Break and Enter
Around 4 am this morning City Police attended at 59 Great Northern Road for a break and enter. Thieves entered Instaloan and obtained a small-undisclosed amount of money. If you know who is responsible for this incident contact City Police.
Drug Charges Laid
Last evening around 1am City Police stopped a car on Great Northern Road and arrested the 2 occupants. City Police had received information that the OPP was investigating a compliant that the driver of the vehicle may have stolen some cash and jewellery from a residence in Goulais River. Officers located a small amount of marihuana and the stolen property on the 19-year old driver. 19-year old Carla Eisler of 540 Wallace Terrace has been charged with one count possession of stolen property and one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance. She will appear in court on May 30th. A 17-year old youth, who was a passenger in the vehicle, has also been charged with one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance and will appear in court on May 31st.
