Four Sault Police officers suffered minor injuries and multiple cruisers were left damaged after the driver of a stolen car struck one officer before fleeing, say police.

The incident started around 6:10 p.m. last night when a 9-1-1 call came in about a driver 'passed out' in a vehicle in a parking lot in the 700 block of Wellington Street East, says a police press release issued this morning.

Police say the car drove away when officers tried to speak to the driver, striking an officer before crashing into a fence on its way out of the parking lot.

Police say the vehicle continued to drive erratically as it evaded police without its lights on. It went through a busy parking lot, through a red light and struck a cruiser before police eventually stopped it on Brien Avenue.

The driver and a passenger were both arrested.

Amanda Maynard, 40, was charged with:

  • Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest x3
  • Dangerous Operation x2
  • Flight from Peace Officer x2
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Mischief Under $5,000
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
  • Break and Enter – Commit Indictable Offence

Police say Maynard had been arrested around 5:40 a.m. the same day for an unrelated break and enter in the 600 block of Metzger Street and had been released on an undertaking.

Jacob Sabourin, 36, was charged with being an occupant of a vehicle taken without consent.
