Four charged with trafficking - cocaine, fentanyl found

On Dec. 18, 2018 officers with the Patrol Services Division of The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested four individuals for possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Just before midnight on Dec. 17, officers observed a vehicle that had been reported stolen driving on Great Northern Road.

Officers stopped the vehicle and the four individuals that were located inside; 27-year-old Derrick Derasp of Sudbury, Ont., 34-year-old Christopher Rivard of Wallace Terrace, 24-year-old Shantelle Webster of Cambridge Place and 24-year-old Megan Laird of Wellington Street East were taken into custody.

Inside the vehicle officers located;

  • 138 grams of cocaine,
  • 17 grams of magic mushrooms,
  • 5 grams of fentanyl,
  • 1 gram of methamphetamine; and,
  • Under 1 gram of heroin

All four accused persons have been charged with;

  • one count of possession of stolen property,
  • three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, and
  • two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

Megan Laird and Christopher Rivard were also charged with one count of breach of probation. It is further alleged that Shantelle Webster took the motor vehicle from the owner on Dec. 17. Upon her arrest she was found to have an additional 4 grams of cocaine on her person.

She has also been charged with one count of theft of the motor vehicle, one count of possession of a controlled substance and one count of breach of recognizance. The total street value of the drugs seized is approximately $17,000.

Ms. Laird will appear in court on Jan. 21, 2019. The other three accused persons were held for bail court.
