Police confirmed on Tuesday that someone was found deceased inside the home on Woodward Avenue that caught fire on Sunday.
"The Ontario Fire Marshal is investigating as the cause of the fire has yet to be determined. One person was found deceased inside the residence," the Sault Police Service said in a news release.
"The investigation is ongoing. Further details will be released as they become available."
Shortly after 1:30 p.m., firefighters could be seen breaking through the door as pillars of smoke towered from the home.
Paramedics and police were on scene, as well, with Woodward Avenue blocked off as firefighters tackled the blaze.
Officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service remain at the scene while the investigation continues.
