VIDEO: Firefighters tackle blaze at Woodward Ave. home

‘Community members are urged to take alternate routes if travelling in the area,’ said police, as firefighters work to extinguish fire

A house on Woodward Avenue went up in flames Sunday afternoon.

Shortly after 1:30 p.m., firefighters could be seen breaking through the door as pillars of smoke towered from the home.

Paramedics and police were on scene, as well, with Woodward Avenue blocked off as firefighters tackled the blaze.

Sault Ste. Marie Police have urged the public to avoid the area.

"Officers have traffic closed to the area at Queen Street East and Wellington Street East," police said in a press release.

"Community members are urged to take alternate routes if travelling in the area."

SooToday has yet to learn if there were any occupants in the home.
