Sault Police say they caught a suspected thief red-handed Friday night.

On Oct. 18 at around 8 p.m., police say someone phoned 911 to report a person cutting through a fence in the 100 block of MacDonald Avenue.

By the time officers arrived, the suspect was already on the other side of the fence on private property.

“A search of the accused found them to be in possession of multiple break in instruments,” says a police news release issued today.

Christopher Rivard, 40, is charged with:

  • Break and Enter – Intent to Commit Indictable Offence
  • Possession of Break In Instruments
  • Failure to Comply with Probation Order

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Rivard is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
