When police got a call that a vehicle had come into town in an erratic manner and that it was parked somewhere along the south end of Great Northern Road, they went to check it out, says a news release.
What officers found there was a stolen vehicle with a 30-30 calibre rifle and ammunition inside. And the suspected driver.
Police say the driver was wanted on a committal warrant for suspended driving and was arrested and taken to the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre.
Amey Roach, 50, is awaiting a bail hearing.
Roach is charged with the following:
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
- Possession of a firearm, knowing its possession is unauthorized
- Two counts of careless storage of a firearm or ammunition
- Motor vehicle theft
- Theft over $5,000
